There are too many destinations to list that offer fiery fall foliage along with beautiful days and crisp cool nights ideal for any travel vacation. One of the best ways to experience the fall palette and interesting out-of-the-way places is traveling the colorful roadways of scenic highways.

Vermont

Vermont has several scenic highways with interesting stops along the way at historic points, farms, museums, and attractions.

  • Mount Snow Loop – 100 miles – In the Jacksonville/Halifax area, take a break from sightseeing and stop in at the Honora Winery and Tasting Room for refreshments. Venture on towards Mount Snow and take the Mount Snow chair lift open on the weekends during the fall and summer.
  • Upper Connecticut River Valley – 130 miles – plan a stop at Quechee State Park located in Hartford VT for fall viewing, hiking and see the breathtaking views at the Quechee Gorge. The park has a campground and can accommodate most RVs. Sites have access to showers and a dump station but do not have hookups.

Plan stops along the way at the Grand Traverse Lighthouse, Inspiration Point, Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore and the lakeside villages of Northport, Omena and Peshawbestown.

New York
  • The Adirondack Mountains provide a spectacular fall vista through October. One of the best places for viewing is at John Boyd Thacher State Park.
