So you’ve just driven off the lot of Reines RV and you’re ready to enjoy the open road. Before you hit the highways, you may want to take some time to familiarize yourself with some of the basic facts of life on the move. Here are a few things that you must know before setting sail:
Not All Towns Are RV Friendly
There are towns where RVers are welcome visitors, representing an influx of tourist dollars and a mark of pride that your town is worth visiting. Then there are towns where RVs aren’t allowed to stay overnight in any parking lot, the police will be quick to tell you to keep moving, and folks are generally just very unwelcoming of outsiders. The only way to know the difference is to make friends of your fellow RVers, which should be easy with the internet and stops at RV parks. The road is your home, but not every town throws out the welcome mat.
You’re Going to Do Some Repairs Yourself
So you’re a member of AAA or Sam’s Club? Great. Now guess what, you’ve just lot a tire in an area with no cell phone reception. You’re going to need to know how to do some basic repairs on your own RV, including how to safely change a tire on such a big vehicle. Basic maintenance will help keep those repairs few and far between, of course.
The Right Knowledge is Golden for a Traveler
There are apps that will help you to map out stops at only the cheapest gas stations, and websites that tell you where to get the best burger in New Mexico. You need this information. Become a data-junkie, always on the lookout for new information that will help you save money and plan your travels.
Most importantly: have fun. You’ll want to keep these points in mind, but remember that RVing is all about freedom. Don’t be afraid to take a few risks (permitting safe driving, of course!) and have some fun while traveling. Hey, and if you find yourself in Virginia, come see us at Reines RV! We can help get your RV back in shape, provide you with some useful accessories, and give you more advice.
